Sr. Manager, Information Science (Librarian)

Under the supervision of the Managing Director of Research, the Sr. Manager for Information Science identifies, curates and repurposes content for CFP Board’s searchable online information resource center that advances CFP Board’s goals and helps CFP® professionals and others in the financial planning community better serve their clients and the public. This online resource center combines CFP Board-created content—including books, resource guides, videos, research reports, Financial Planning Review papers and Connections Conference sessions —with vetted high-quality content from respected third-party sources. They create and update the taxonomy that will serve as the framework for the online information resource and identify opportunities for potential content creation across CFP Board (e.g., Connections Conference sessions, education products). They serve as a research resource for internal staff. 

Essential Functions

  • Develop and maintain CFP Board’s online resource library to support CFP candidates, financial planners, their clients and CFP Board staff.
  • Develop and maintain the taxonomy that supports the CFP Board’s online platforms, education content development and dissemination, and annual Connections Conference. Work across teams to support the implementation and use of taxonomy, including through the development of protocols and training.
  • Evaluate, curate and catalog CFP Board and respected third-party research, resources and toolkits. When necessary, translate external resources for the targeted audience.
  • Provide research support to staff, including conducting routine online literature searches. Respond within one business day to incoming calls for information and research support and provide accurate responses with readily available information.
  • Identify emerging trends from information and research inquiries, conversations on online networking platforms and other sources to inform the financial planning field’s needs.
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to the online information resource center.
  • Manage access to the organization’s online research databases and advise on database subscriptions based on organizational needs. 
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant points-of-contact at stakeholder organizations that will provide services/resources supporting CFP Board’s mission, vision, values, strategic goals, or the personal finance field.

Background/Skills/Abilities Required or Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or industry experience required. Master’s Degree (e.g., Master of Library or Information Science) or extensive information research experience in a professional business or nonprofit setting is strongly preferred.
  • 5 years of demonstrated experience with cataloging, metadata, taxonomy, and digital content description.
  • Experience with partnering with senior staff and volunteers to develop products and services. 
  • Familiarity with the financial planning profession and financial services industry is preferred but not required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to translate complex concepts into easy-to-understand, accessible language.
  • Demonstrated success leading through influence, leveraging relationships and interpersonal skills to drive for results. 
  • Experience management of volunteers preferred but not required
  • Highly skilled in adaptability, critical thinking and collaboration.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Commitment to professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to handle numerous projects at any given time and deliver outstanding finished product(s) in a timely manner.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), content management and/or digital asset management systems, membership databases, and electronic information databases.

This position works on programs which are part of both the 501 (c)(6) and the 501 (c)(3).

This position is based in the Washington D.C. office and works a hybrid schedule which could be changed at any time.

CFP Board is an Equal Opportunity Employer. The applicable starting annual base salary is anticipated to be in the range of $105,000.00 to $130,000.00.  In addition to base salary, total compensation includes incentive compensation for which employees are eligible based on completion of individual goals.
