- Position Summary
The Assistant Practicum Coordinator for EC & Montessori Programs assists the practicum coordinator in administering and managing all programs associated with Early Childhood Education (ECE), Montessori Teacher Education Program (MTEP), and Montessori at certificate, undergraduate, and graduate levels. This is a grant-funded position. Grant funding is expected to expire on December 31, 2026. Continuation of this position past this date will be contingent upon additional grant funding being secured and the needs of the University.

- Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Teaching/Fieldwork (80% of work time)
Programs: Montessori Certificate, AS ECE, BS ECE, BS ECE with Montessori/PK-K, MAT ECE PK-3, MAT Montessori PK-K
- ST Handbooks
- Updates adult learner (CEED & BS & MAT Montessori PK-K) and student teaching handbooks (MAT Montessori PK-K & PK-3),
- Maintains student teaching websites (i.e. ECE Fieldwork Experience, PK-3 Practicum, Montessori PK-K Practicum)
- Orientation
- Assists the practicum coordinator in the preparation of orientation training for Cooperating Teachers and University Supervisors
- Coordination and Support
- Assists the practicum coordinator in drafting replies to student teaching related inquiries
- Copies and updates courses EDUC 691, 781, 783 (ED & CEED 497 A&B), ED 498AB in Canvas under the practicum coordinator’s direction
- Collects necessary paperwork and check for completeness to set up student teaching
- Assists the practicum coordinator in securing the placement of ECE students
- Prepares check requests for CT and US compensation and mileage reimbursement.
- Evaluation
- Reviews observation and evaluation reports from the US and CT and informs the practicum coordinator of anything that needs special attention
- Recommendation & AMS Credential
- Prepares licensing and credential recommendation paperwork
- AMS Credential - once received, scan a copy for the student’s file
Education Division and Others (20% of work time)
- Community Relations & Partnership
- Assist the director of ECE and MTEP in preparing and collaborating on any reports as a result of community involvement, such as the Early Learning Council, Hawaii Careers with Young Children, Kaulanakilohana, etc.
- Replies to general inquiries regarding CUH ECE programs
- Prepares Christmas cards recipients list
- Updates CUH ECE social media accounts
- Scholarships (ECE Castle Scholarship & CoH Scholarship)
- Prepares and verifies scholarship applications for review
- Assist the director of ECE and MTEP in coordinating with Institutional Advancement to prepare and submit any grant or scholarship reports as needed (i.e. ECE Castle Scholarship, John Chin Young, etc.)
- CoH Scholarship
- Tracks students progress and update advising sheets,
- Sends out registration and scholarship application reminders,
- Prepares invoices and reports every term,
- Follows up with the business office regarding students account balances

- Education and Experience
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in ECE or related field required.
Preferred: Three years of experience in ECE or related field and preferably some higher education experiences.
- Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to pay attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and oral formats.
- Demonstrates excellent organizational skills as well as management and administration skills.
- Advanced skills in basic Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Canvas, social media, and other educational technology tools, including online teaching and learning.
- Physical Requirements
Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.
- Other Requirements
- This is a part time, non-exempt position. 18 hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and have a varying schedule when required

This position is funded completely or in part by funds received from a Kosasa Foundation. Funds received from the grant are expected to stop on December 31, 2026. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program and/or operational needs of the University and the availability of grant funds.
