Title: Professional Tutor
Department: Office of Student Success (OSS)
Part-time, Non-Exempt
- Position Summary
The Professional Tutor is responsible for instructing Program participants in small groups or on an individual basis from the basic skills level to the advanced level. The Professional Tutor utilizes tutoring methodology and supplementary resources and assists the Tutor Coordinator to train peer tutors and conduct skill workshops. The Professional Tutor is directly responsible for accurately recording and maintaining all tutoring files and records pertaining to self and student.

- Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Tutoring (80%)
- Select and incorporate the most effective learning materials and strategies to meet students’ academic needs
- Consult with faculty to correlate tutorial services with class assignments
- Report to Tutor Coordinator concerning student’s progress and of any unusual concerns about the Program Participant which might require special counseling
- Manage appointments online via AppointmentPlus and email
Tutor Training and Workshops (15%)
- Assist Tutor Coordinator with developing and implementing tutor training workshops and with peer tutor evaluations
- Present and/or co-present workshops on study skills, life skills, or academic skills to Program participants
- Attend required tutor training workshops and one-on-one meetings with Tutor Coordinator
- Complete Basic Level of CRLA national tutor training certification program (at a minimum)
Administrative Duties (5% during the Academic Year)
- Visit Classrooms to introduce self to students and instructors
- Maintain accurate records of time spent and work completed with each participant
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or the Tutor Coordinator

- Education and Experience
Minimum
Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body at all levels of the university
- Familiarity with educational technology and ability to use it to enhance student learning
- Group facilitation skills
- Physical Requirements
Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.
- Other Requirements
- This is a part time, non-exempt position. Nineteen hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and have a varying schedule when required
