What are the responsibilities and job description for the UNPAID Internship - Give Back Garden (Spring & Summer 2025) position at CHAMPAIGN-URBANA PUBLIC HEALTH DISTRICT?
The CUPHD Give Back Garden (GBG) has a simple mission: to provide fresh produce to those members of our community that need it most. The GBG consists of over 30 raised beds and produce is given away for free to families in need, no questions asked. As an affiliate, CUPHD also functions as a produce donation site for Solidarity Gardens (SG). CUPHD seeks an intern to assist with garden maintenance and planning, produce distribution, and promotion (social media, signage, etc.). This position may also help with other food accessibility initiatives, such as: CU Farm to School, the Free Friday Market, Summer Meals Program, Healthy Champaign County, and WIC. The selected candidate would ideally be able to assist with needs covering both the spring and summer, but candidates will be considered for either semester.
Ideal candidate qualifications:
· Background in gardening, horticulture, nutrition, marketing, and/or public health
· Able to lift 50 pounds
· Able to bend over to weed, plant, harvest
· Willingness to work outside in various weather conditions
· Willingness to get dirty and/or wet while working
· Competent computer skills (Microsoft 365 suite, Canva, social media platforms)
· Speak Spanish and/or French
· Possess active Food Handler’s or Food Safety Manager certification
