What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Support Professional position at Champions for Children's Mental Health?
***This is an in-person CONTRACT position***
A Family Support Professional (FSP) is, or has been, the parent or primary caregiver of a child or youth with behavioral and/or mental health concerns that has leadership and partnership skills that can be helpful to other families and the system that serves them.
A Champion’s for Children’s Mental Health FSP will:
- Help families better understand the system of care for children and youth with special needs
- Serve as an advocate for families
- Help families develop skills so they can advocate for themselves
- Attend healthcare, school, and court meeting with families
- Serve as an emotional support and a positive role model to parents and caregivers
- Assist the system in providing services that are family-driven and responsive to the needs of those it serves
- Work with families in solving problems related to the care of their child or youth
- Assist in identifying and training new leaders in the arena of family involvement
- Build community awareness about Champions for Children’s Mental Health and our services
Description of Responsibilities
- Advocate for families
- Assist in creating and sustaining a family driven approach
- Facilitate cultural competency
- Assist families with appropriate referral and support
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners
- Identifies and links potential family leaders with CFCMH
- Provide area families with advocacy skills, resources, and information
- Establish and maintain relationships with community based projects, organizations, and leaders
- Participate in activities to develop their personal leadership skills
- Maintain a knowledge of community based programs
Qualifications, Skills, and Personal Qualities
- MUST BE, OR HAVE BEEN, THE PARENT OR PRIMARY CAREGIVER OF A CHILD WITH A MENTAL HEALTH DIAGNOSIS
- Minimum of a high school diploma/GED
- Ability to work with multiple team players
- Dependable
- Mature
- Ability to use good judgement
- Positive attitude
- Ability to use experiences to assist and support other families
- Exceptional communication skills
- Organization and coordination skills
- Valid driver's license
- Dependable transportation
- Knowledge of cultural diversity practices and outreach
- Understanding of Delaware's systems
Prior Experience Needed
- MUST be a parent or primary caregiver of a child or youth with a mental health diagnosis
