Position Summary
The Food Security Navigator provides a positive, welcoming experience for our food shelf shoppers at the Welcome Desk. As the Food Security Navigator, you will help provide outreach, direct support and caseload management for assigned food assistance programs. You will determine eligibility, enroll, and re-certify participants in person and over the phone. You may also assist with on and off-site food distribution, SNAP outreach, service tracking, site support, monitoring, service statistics, data entry, and file maintenance.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide regular and consistent coverage at the Food Shelf Welcome Desk
- Greet shoppers and assist with registration, check-in and/or registration renewal, as needed, using Link2Feed or another assigned database.
- Secure interpretation and support to shoppers with Limited English Proficiency.
- Provide real-time outreach for CSFP, TEFAP and other food assistance programs.
- Return phone calls and emails from shoppers and the public as needed, providing for adequate follow-up for persons reaching out for support and assistance.
- Coordinate with Food Shelf team for outreach, registration, and distribution for services such as Food Shelf delivery, Mobile Markets, outreach to Senior High Rises and other high need communities.
- Assist with real-time data entry for distributions using Link2Feed and data-enabled tablets. Other data entry and service statistics support as needed.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent required; post-secondary education helpful
- Human or social service experience helpful
- Strong interpersonal (customer service, written and verbal communication) skills required
- Data entry experience
- Ability to work with and serve a diverse population. Bilingual language skills desired (Arabic, Somali, Spanish, Hmong).
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Office
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and handle multiple projects
- Able to handle physical requirements, including walking, lifting, bending, reaching, and occasionally lifting food boxes weighing up to 40 lbs.
