Financial Aid Counselor


Chatham University invites applicants for the Financial Aid Coordinator position. The financial aid coordinator helps current and prospective students access financial aid resources and understand how to manage their loans. They assist students by answering questions about the financial aid application process and provide guidance on financial aid options. The coordinator assists in the overall operation of the financial aid department and works collaboratively with the Enrollment office in support of the recruitment, persistence and completion goals of the University.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • One or more years of financial aid experience, including knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations and programs is preferred.
  • Must possess strong customer service skills and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Office products including excel is required.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, and possess excellent written, oral, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with the student information system CampusVue/Anthology is helpful but not required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advise students and families regarding financial aid opportunities offered by the institution, as well as federal, state, and alternative funding.
  • Provide accurate information and interpretation of the rules, regulations and application procedures for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and any other financial aid programs available to students and their families.
  • Explain federal, state, and institutional policies as they relate to financial aid eligibility.
  • Responsible for providing outreach and support to new undergraduate students and their families to review the financial aid package and answer any questions, including documentation of all outreach in Financial Aid Management System.
  • Responsible for packaging undergraduate student financial aid.
  • Provides guidance on Financial Aid satisfactory academic progress (SAP) and the financial ramifications of not making progress towards a degree.
  • Provides student loan information to all students and specialized assistance to students in danger of losing their financial aid eligibility due to not meeting SAP; and those whose aid has been suspended and are interested in how to have it reinstated.
  • Completes proactive auditing to identify new undergraduate students who are unable to be packaged and completes follow-up via phone and e-mail to resolve packaging issues or discrepancies.
  • Conduct meetings with prospective students and their families in person, virtually, or via phone to review financial award package, answer questions and ensure families are well informed about their financial options.
  • Update document tracking with all paperwork received.
  • Responsible for promptly responding to phone calls and e-mails from students and families. • Assist with training of work-study student staff.
  • Assist with Direct loan processing and error resolution.
  • Updating Financial Aid Management System Document Tracking with loan paperwork received.
  • Send reminders to students for all types of missing financial aid documents.
  • Processes, monitors, and maintains outside scholarship payments for students.
  • Keep current on regulatory updates by attending webinars and training.
  • Help revise financial aid marketing materials and online documents and information for each new financial aid year.
  • Completes reporting as needed.
  • Occasional weekend and evening hours are required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range:

$40,000 - $45,000. 35-hour work week.
