What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Health Sanitarian position at Chemung County?
Chemung County Health Department is actively seeking a Public Health Sanitarian, also known as Public Health Inspector.

Sanitarians' primary role is to promote public health. Their duties may include conducting environmental health inspections at restaurants and other food service establishments, hotels, campgrounds, swimming pools, water and sewage treatment systems, hospitals, adult care facilities and other locations.
Key Functions:
- This position is responsible for performing specialized and complex professional environmental health inspections and other related work.
- Typical areas/programs of responsibility include: Food Service Establishments, Mobile Home Parks, Public Swimming Pools, Rabies Prevention, Residential Lead, Nuisance Complaints, Campgrounds, and others.
- Responsible for compliance with Public Health Laws and State and County Sanitary Code.
- Assists Foodborne Illness Investigations and other Communicable Diseases programs
Requirements:
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State college or university with a Bachelor's Degree including a minimum of 30 credit hours in physical and biological sciences acceptable to the Local Commissioner of Health or Public Health Director and satisfactory completion of a training course approved by the State Health Department within one (1) year of appointment; or
B. Five (5) years of experience as a Public Health Technician deemed satisfactory by the Local Commissioner of Health or Public Health Director and satisfactory completion of a public health training course approved by the New York State Health Department.

Pay: $27.26 per hour
