Job Summary
Oversees student activities, maintains order in dorms, maintains accurate records, provides individual guidance to students, oversees housekeeping, and maintains accountability system for each student in compliance with the Bureau of Indian Affairs regulations.
Job Duties
Fosters a dormitory atmosphere conducive to student personality and character development.
Assists students in adjusting to residential life and making changes that will enhance their future.
Gives advise, guidance, and discipline as needed.
Oversees students in housekeeping chores and makes routine inspections.
Trains and oversees student residential leaders and aides.
Maintains records on students participation in organizations and activities.
Maintains an adequate records system which includes running logs of significant events.
Provides individual and group guidance on an informal and/or structured basis.
Responds to emergencies as required.
Attends to sick or troubled students as needed.
Personal contacts and written reports must reflect a student has received prompt attention for his/her physical, emotional, or social problems and proper referral and action have been taken.
Participates in training activities and coordinates activities/programs with other residential programs. Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
No supervisory responsibility.
Qualifications
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
High school education; or general education degree (GED). Must have at least 32 college hours and/or equivalent certifications/trainings in fields related to working with children. Such as Child Development, education, behavioral sciences or cultural studies. Or must obtain NCRYS Residential Child and Youth Care Professional Certification within 90 days of hire.
Experience Requirement
An additional one year experience working with adolescents is required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
Other Qualifications
Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Work hours are 12:00 am - 8:00 am Tues to Sat
