A Day in the Life of a Diabetes Educator:
The Diabetes Educator works as part of the diabetes self-management training (DSMT) team and is primarily responsible for providing direct patient care to patients/families with diabetes in the inpatient and outpatient settings. This position assists the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Program Coordinator in maintaining optimal care of Cheyenne Regional patients through appropriate training and current training materials.

Here Is What You Will Be Doing:
- Acts as an advocate for inpatient diabetic population.
- Reviews blood glucose logs and patient charts, requests physician order for diabetes education when appropriate, works collaboratively with physician and staff to optimize diabetes care.
- Provides outpatient diabetes self-management training to physician-referred patients.
- Follows local, state and national standards of practice to educate diabetic patients.
- Trains patients in the basics of disease process, nutrition recommendations for diabetes, self-monitoring of blood glucose, medication instruction (including insulin administration), role of physical activity, prevention of complications, appropriate follow-up care and community resources.
- Documents patient care and education in patient chart.
- Helps coordinator maintain current, reliable patient training materials and education forms.
- Provides consultation regarding education and care of patients with diabetes to healthcare providers, assists with nursing staff education, works collaboratively with ADA coordinator and staff to review the standards for current, efficacious education and care of the patient with diabetes.
- Assists with Endocrinology patient education and equipment use.

Here Is What You Will Need:
- Wyoming Registered Nurse License or enhanced Nurse Licensure (eNLC)
- OR, Wyoming Dietician license
- Two (2) or more years of clinical experience in a hospital setting
- 5 years: Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) certification within five years of start date
- Cheyenne Regional AHA RQI within 14 calendar days of start dat
Nice To Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or dietetics
- Familiarity with child and adult learning theories
- Experience with curriculum development and teaching methods
