Description

• Under the supervision of the Center Operations Coordinator/Teacher, this position serves as an assistant for a Head Start classroom.
• The Assistant Teacher shares responsibility for a Head Start classroom of 3- to 5-year-old children.
• This position works collaboratively with the teacher, family members and other staff to achieve positive outcomes for children of all abilities. Uses knowledge of the principles of child growth and development to work with children and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Position works during the school year only.

Requirements

• Requires High School Diplomas or GED and enrolled in advanced education that will lead to a minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or a state awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential within two years of hire date.
• Demonstrated computer literacy skills, using MS Office applications and other basic data systems including internet navigation.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable.
• Must maintain CPR and First Aid Certification.
• Physical exam, TB and Drug Screening and criminal background, required.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Ability to respond appropriately to the cultural differences present among the agency’s service population.
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
• Must have valid driver’s license which meets the requirements of the agency’s insurance carrier.
