Job Description:
Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility:
Administers and monitors the University student loan programs to assure compliance with University's and Federal loan program regulations. Serves as a liaison between the third-party billing servicer and collection agencies. Performs all due diligence on past due accounts receivables.
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Prepares journal entries to allocate loan and accounts receivable payments from collection agencies and billing servicers.
- May also analyze and prepare customer-supporting documents for collection agencies and courts for legal processing.
- Updates customer's collection status and notates the accounts on a monthly basis.
- Performs all due diligence on past-due accounts for students, employees, and businesses.
- Prepare reports of all accounts that will be placed with collection agencies.
- Reconcile accounts at the collection agency with the billing servicer.
- Submit invoices for payment to collection agencies and billing services each month.
- Generate and distribute all correspondence to customers of their outstanding balances and legal status.
- Administer and process in-house short-term repayment agreements.
- Generate a list of accounts to be written off.
- Assist with cashiering during peak times.
- Advises and counsels students and other customers on University policies and regulations by answering phone lines, assisting students, departments, or agencies during student registration periods, and responding to emails daily.
- Reconcile all collection agencies' account balance and status reports to the banner system and update notes.
- Performs other special year-end duties. Research and analyze all outstanding balances and resolve any discrepancies. Process necessary documents for all customers.
Requirements:
- Great customer service skills
- Excellent organizational, communication, relational, and team skills
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize
- Must have strong computer skills
- Accounts Receivable/cashiering experience
Education and Experience:
- Minimum requirements include high school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
- Working knowledge of computer operations
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines
- Good verbal, written, an interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Credentials
- Accounts Receivable and loan collection experience
- Some accounting knowledge
- Higher education experience
- Knowledge of Banner
Physical Requirements:
Work requires the physical demands of seeing, touching, standing, bending, lifting, stooping, or performing other work requiring light physical exertion, frequent walking, or moderate physical exertion.
