JOB SUMMARY:

The Property Accountant is responsible for basic accounting functions that include the preparation and review of financial statements but are not limited to reconciling balances of general ledgers and making any necessary adjustments to ledger; and reconciles bank statements for all assigned properties. Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Prepare monthly financial statements for several HUD funded properties.
• Perform monthly reconciliations of trial balance accounts for assigned properties.
• Make corrections to the general ledger and/or bank statements for assigned properties.
• Prepare monthly billings for management fees and other monthly charges.
• Responsible for property month-end close and review of financial statements.
• Work with third party auditors on all property annual audits.
• Assist community managers with preparation of annual budgets for related properties.
• Research outstanding accounts payable balances while monitoring cash flow.
• Review and enter data for accounts payable as needed.
• Review and approve the reconciliation of bank accounts for all properties.
• Prepare receipts and deposits for Christopher Homes, Inc.
• Monitor bank accounts managed by asset managers.
• Perform bank reconciliations for each property assigned.
• Prepare and monitor annual property budgets.
• Work closely with HUD representatives on budget renewals and funding requests.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced & ministry oriented environment.
• Works as part of a team, as well as completes assignments independently.
• Maintains a professional, compassionate and welcoming attitude toward managers, co-workers, residents, and visitors.
• Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be able to lift, carry, pull or push 10 pounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to understand and apply basic accounting concepts including accruals, prepaids, payables, receivables, escrow, cash flow, debit/credit, budgets, and financial statements.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Requires at least three (3) years experience in accounting, bookkeeping and/or accounts payable. Applicant must have successful track record of accomplishments.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams.
• Must be able to navigate online accounts related to banking, mortgages, on-line bill pay.
• Experience Yardi software a plus but not required.
• Experience with HUD a plus but not required.
• Experience with property management accounting a plus but not required.

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or business equivalent is required.
