Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Clinic Supervisor, the Medical Assistant is responsible to assist in the care and services of CIBD patients across the continuum of illness; promotes and monitors effective utilization of health care resources; and, assumes an assistive role with the multi-disciplinary care team to achieve optimal clinical and resource outcomes. The Medical Assistant provides Team Center Care in a collaborative setting in accordance with the standards and regulations for California Children’s Services (CCS).

Essential Job Duties

  • Applies standards of care that demonstrate success in promoting high quality, cost effective delivery of care.
  • Promotes comprehensive care team model and becomes cross-trained as necessary to provide staffing support as needed.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be self-directed and work effectively with others at all levels.
  • Acts as a liaison to providers, patients and staff and exhibits effective communications to maintain excellent interpersonal relationships.
  • Uses standardized procedures in compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Performs and accurately interprets patient vital signs and reports abnormalities to the RN and/or MD responsible for that patient.
  • Assists nursing and medical staff with procedures and other skills performed on patients during their clinic visit.
Required Education/Experience

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Medical Assisting
  • 1 year of direct back-office Medical Assistant experience
Preferred Education/Experience

  • 1 year of EMR systems experience
  • 1 year of taking vital signs experience
  • 6 months experience in outpatient community clinic environment
  • Bilingual in Spanish
Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Basic Life Support
  • HIPAA training
  • Current CA Medical Assistant Certificate (preferred)
Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

The Center for Comprehensive Care & Diagnosis of Inherited Blood Disorders (CIBD), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is committed to providing comprehensive care for patients and their families with rare, chronic inherited blood disorders. CIBD is a part of a nationwide network of over 140 Hemophilia Treatment Centers that use multidisciplinary teams of blood disorder specialists to provide expert comprehensive diagnosis, medical care, outreach, education, outcomes monitoring, surveillance, and prevention services to people with hemophilia, Sickle-Cell Anemia, Thalassemia, Von Willebrand Disease, and other related hematology conditions. CIBD is the regional grantee for the Western States Region/Region IX providing regional leadership, fiscal and administrative oversight, grants management, capacity building, clinical education, technical assistance, evaluation, and outreach to public and private health agencies at the local, state, and federal levels.
