CITY OF AKRON is Hiring a College Intern Near Akron, OH

This is training-level work in conjunction with a college or university baccalaureate or graduate program.
An employee in this class performs work in support of professional personnel as part of a coordinated program of employment and instruction with a college or university leading to a baccalaureate or graduate degree.
Receives training and performs duties in support of professional personnel within an assigned department or division of the City. The nature of the work is based on degree program and organizational need. Performs tasks to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. Provides assistance with assigned projects. Contacts other City departments, divisions, outside agencies, or citizens to gather information as needed. Collects, compiles, and analyzes data. Assists in the preparation of reports. Specific activities vary by department/division. Performs related work as required.
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED. Completion of 48 quarter hours or 32 semester hours and current enrollment in a degree seeking program at an accredited college or university in a field related to the area of internship. Departments may require specific fields of study.
Knowledge of basic research methods and techniques. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports. Ability to communicate in an effective manner both orally and in writing. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to think critically and to problem solve. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to operate personal computers.

Internships are offered on an ongoing basis during any given calendar year depending upon the needs of each participating department. Applications will remain on file for one year.
Submission of a completed on-line application and all required documents including official school transcripts and a writing sample are required to be considered for an internship with the City of Akron.

The following documents are required and must be uploaded to the City of Akron On-line Employment Application to be considered for an Internship.

Individual Departments and Divisions may request students with specific coursework or degrees. To increase the likelihood of being selected for an interview, it is important for all applicants to submit a complete application including college transcripts.
Students who meet the requirements of the hiring division must be available for an in-person panel interview.
Qualifying student will receive 100 points for qualifying. RESIDENCY: Candidates who have been resident citizens within the corporate limits of the City of Akron for at least one year immediately prior to the examination and who continue to reside within the corporate limits of the City of Akron throughout the remainder of the selection process will have 5 points added to their passing grades. VETERANS: A veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, honorably discharged from active duty, desiring a bonus of 5 points added to his/her passing grade, must submit proof of discharge in the form of a DD-214 with application.
 
Participation Requires:

Students must maintain enrollment in a degree seeking program to maintain eligibility for employment.
Working less than 28 hours per week unless additional hours are specifically required by the participating department.
Mandatory attendance at all orientation sessions provided by the City.
Strict adherence to all City and department policies such as, but not limited to, attendance and work hours, conduct, work rules, computer use, and all procedures governing professional work-place behavior.
Participation in a Goal Setting session with the designated Coordinator.
Following the department work plan and completing all assignments in a timely and satisfactory manner.
Participation in all evaluation sessions including the end of program evaluation and an exit interview.
