Examples of Duties
- Implements designated nutrition programs per WIC requirements.
- Works with staff to develop and apply nutrition knowledge and skills across Public Health programs.
- Provides nutrition assessment and counseling for individuals and families.
- Completes accurate reports of service.
- Applies current familiarity with trends in nutrition in making recommendations for program directions and operations modification.
- Contributes to the development and evaluation of agency operations in nutrition.
- Initiates cooperative efforts to coordinate services both internally and externally.
- Represents the best interests of the City and its residents in working across departments, with other community organizations, professional groups, and citizens.
- Keeps supervisor promptly informed of all significant matters necessary to perform his/her position responsibilities effectively.
- Responds to inquiries about public health services and makes appropriate referrals and links to community resources.
- Maintains accurate and timely computer documentation of client services.
- Maintains private and confidential information.
- Performs public health emergency response functions as trained and assigned within the department’s emergency response plan.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Knowledge of up-to-date evidence-based nutrition education and information.

Minimum/Desirable Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics or nursing.
- Current license and/or registered as a dietitian (or RD eligible) or nursing in Minnesota.
- Experience working effectively across cultures.
- Valid driver's license, car insurance and dependable car OR access to reliable transportation required to perform job duties.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced degree or certification related to nutrition or dietetics.
- Additional experience in community nutrition programming.
- Six months experience as a dietitian.
- Experience providing health education to individuals and families.
- Experience working with diverse cultures and interpreters.
- Experience working with children, adults and/or families who are at high risk for poor health outcomes (i.e., low socio-economic or mental health issues).
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience working with electronic health records or documentation.
- Ability to speak a second language, in addition to English that has a recognized presence in the community. (Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, Chinese Mandarin, Cambodian, etc.)
Supplemental Information
- Must maintain license as a Registered Dietitian in the State of Minnesota
- Must maintain ability to travel to home or community sites to provide services or attend trainings.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $39.37 – $41.76 Hourly
Part-Time; Non-Exempt; Non-Union; Benefits Ineligible
The position description does not constitute an employment agreement between the employer and employee and is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and requirements of the job change
Ongoing Part-Time employees who are employed for more than 6 months will make contributions to the pension program (PERA) through payroll deductions unless they qualify for one of the exemptions. In addition, Part-Time may receive Paid-time Off (PTO) at rate outlined in employee handbook and eligable for paid parental leave after 6 months of employment.
Temporary/Seasonal employees do not receive benefits outside of Paid-time Off (PTO) at rate outlined in employee handbook.
