Job Description Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor, with direction and guidance from the Facility Maintenance Lead Technician, this seasonal position is responsible for supporting maintenance functions and pool chemical management at the Department of Parks and Recreation aquatic facilities (recreation centers and indoor/outdoor aquatic facilities). This position may be either full or part-time depending on seasonal needs, applicant experience, and availability with the seasonal need for the role starting in late February and ending in October.Job Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the Facility Maintenance Lead Technician perform maintenance functions for all Department aquatic facilities including East, North and South Boulder Recreation Center indoor pools, and Scott Carpenter and Spruce outdoor pools, including but not limited to:
Assists in maintenance functions including filtration and disinfectant systems; and various equipment including pumps, heaters, and other mechanical and plumbing systems, and may sometimes lead in the repairs or maintenance as assigned. May assist in the opening of outdoor aquatic facilities or in the winterization of facilities.
Assists in maintaining appropriate levels of caustic and non-caustic chemicals in accordance with the State of Colorado Department of Public Health's guidelines and standards.
Assists in maintaining operations in accordance with the State of Colorado Department of Public Health's guidelines and standards.
Assists in testing water at each Aquatic facility site and adjusting chemicals as necessary.
Attend ongoing training and education as assigned to ensure proficiency. Assists in ensuring that all facilities are safe for public access through education, inspection, proper care of equipment and knowledge of emergency action site plans.
May perform administrative tasks, including keeping pool chemical and maintenance logs or other tasks as assigned.
Performs customer service tasks as needed.

Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies, and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to City property. Responds quickly and effectively to rapidly changing environmental conditions.
Responsible for knowing and complying with all City and department policies; participating in professional training and development; and adhering to attendance and workplace attire policies.
Performs related duties as required by management to meet the needs of the City of Boulder.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to communicate professionally, courteously, and effectively verbally and in writing with other staff members, the public, and event promoters.
Experience using personal computers and software.
Ability to observe and perform practical safety measures are observed and ability to utilize all required safety equipment.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends, some evenings, and holidays.
Valid driver's license.
Have a current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatics Facilities Operator (AFO) certification or be willing to obtain one within 6-months of hire.
Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Construction, HVAC, or plumping experience.
Experience with recreation facilities, operated by a municipality or recreation district.
Bi-lingual in Spanish and English.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Valid driver's license.
Have a current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatics Facilities Operator (AFO) certification or be willing to obtain one within 6-months of hire.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Requires upper body strength to lift and carry supplies and equipment as needed.
Ability to perform a wide range of strenuous physical and manual tasks in an outdoor environment.
Physical ability to stand, walk, and kneel; hand/eye coordination to operate machinery and vehicles including but not limited to front loaders, backhoes, and large capacity trucks; personal computer and office equipment; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and the public.
Works in both indoor and outdoor environments that are often impacted by chemical odors, weather, and at times, unpredictable conditions.
Machines and equipment used include but are not limited to: Uses various aquatics supplies and equipment, filtration systems, AED, chemical control systems, standard office equipment including personal computers, telephones/cell phones, calculators, and copy/fax machines daily.
