Job Description Summary:
The Armorer will oversee the overall operation of the Armory by following established procedures for the general maintenance, repair, issue and return, storage and security, and inventory of all weaponry, ammunition, and related equipment to include the indoor range.Job Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works under the direction of the Training Unit to assist with the department’s firearms programs
Maintains accurate inventory of all weapons, related equipment, and munitions.
Orders and issues all weapons and related firearms/range equipment.
Completes firearms maintenance and inspections in compliance with policy and CALEA standards.
Maintains knowledge in compliance with current, best practices.
Analyzes munitions consumption rates and establishes stock levels for each.
Purchases all ammo for department including less-lethal munitions.
Purchases, issues, and maintains all department issued handguns, rifles, shotguns, less-lethal shotguns, and suppressors.
Purchases, issues, and maintains all department issued SWAT weapons.
Purchases, issues and maintains all optics, flashlights, and holsters.
Maintains the indoor shooting range to include the purchase of targets, target backers, weapon cleaning solutions, personal protective equipment and any other associated range needs.
Purchases and maintains protective equipment for range instructors.
Maintains contracts with external range facilities.
Maintains all Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms paperwork.
Maintains the range truck.
Maintains emergency back-up inventory of department issued weapons.
Other duties as assigned by the Training Unit Sergeant or Support Services Commander.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 21 years of age at time of hire.
Valid Driver’s License and can maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record.
Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal history.
Obtain and maintain CJIS certification.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Demonstrated personal and professional honesty, integrity, good judgment as shown in applicant’s criminal history, background and motor vehicle record, and use of drugs and alcohol. Preference may be given to applicants who have no history of use, sale, or possession of illegal substances. Prior to employment, successful applicants are required to submit to a drug screen, medical and psychological testing, and possibly additional Polygraph and/or Computer Voice Stress Analysis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of Range Officer responsibilities.
Experience working in a police environment.
Completion of Armorer’s Course-Smith and Wesson M&P.
Completion of Armorer’s Course-Heckler and Koch VP9.
Completion of Armorer’s Course-Remington 870 Shotgun
Completion of Armorer’s Course-Benelli semi-automatic shotguns
Completion of Armorer’s Course-Sig Sauer P320
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must have five (5) years experience as a Gunsmith or Armorer.
Certification in two or more semiautomatic pistols (Smith and Wesson, Colt, H&K, Glock, Sig Sauer).
Certification on the AR15 Rifle Platform.

Supervision Received: Sergeant

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Physical and mental effort: Employee will regularly be required to sit, walk, stoop, kneel, twist, and demonstrate manual dexterity Ability lift and carry 50 lbs.
Work environment: Ability to work nights and weekends to support a 24/7 operation
Machines and equipment used: Driving of range truck to rifle qualifications, setting up target holders and metal targets, use of computer equipment to include automated range functions, gun cleaners, and associated inspection materials.
