Pump Specialist

JOB
The City of Caldwell Water Department is looking for you to join their team. The Pump Specialist will repair and maintain all irrigation/water pumps, and pumping stations; monitors all pressure irrigation systems; and performs related work as required. Individual must have the ability to supervise small work crews of two to three workers as assigned. The principal duties of this class are performed in an outdoor environment, which may involve adverse weather conditions and related hazards.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Maintains all pumping stations. Performs line location of the irrigation/water department’s underground facilities.Drives dump truck to transport and dump loose materials.Inspects truck and loads and unloads truck and performs preventative maintenance for equipment.Supervises work crews as required.Assists in installing, maintaining, repairing, and servicing water distribution and pressure irrigation facilities.Excavates and backfills trenches and installs and repairs irrigation and water mains.Drills and installs service taps in water mains.Operates pumps, valves, turbines, and electric motors to transfer, distribute and regulate pressure and flow of raw water into well houses.Adds chemicals and adjusts automatic devices for chemical distribution into distribution system.Operates and controls water systems to purify and clarify water.Installs water meters in commercial establishments.Repairs fire hydrants and repairs valve boxes.Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.Attends approved meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas.Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.Performs building and grounds maintenance.Performs other related duties as assigned.Performs the duties of the Irrigation Foreman in his absence.
