What are the responsibilities and job description for the Traffic Signal Technician position at City of Chesapeake?

Typical tasks include but are not limited to:
- Assist Traffic Signal Technician II’s in the fabrication, erection, installation, repair and operation of the City’s traffic signals, related control devices and other ITS equipment.
- Maintains city owned street lighting and provides responses to underground traffic signal utilities location requests.
- Assists in meeting with various contractors when directed to discuss equipment installation and repairs.
- Maintains record system for assigned area, processes daily paperwork including reports, requisitions and personnel information, and investigates citizen inquiries.
- Stays abreast of new technology and advancement in the traffic signal field and makes recommendations for changes.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license with a driving record in compliance with the City Driving Standards. Commercial Driver’s license permit required at time of hire.
Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Fall Protection certification must be obtained within one year of hire. International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Technician I certification preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
