What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern - Civil Engineering position at City of Crystal Lake?
The City of Crystal Lake is seeking a self-motivated individual with a positive work ethic to fill the position of Engineering Intern for the summer months.Working under the general direction of the Public Works and Engineering Department and directly reporting to the Capital Engineering Manager, responsibilities include, but are not limited to, data collection in the field, assessment of pavement and sidewalk conditions, overseeing contractors, GIS or drafting, and document scanning. Engineering Intern will be exposed to the many facets of municipal engineering.The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with an emphasis in Civil Engineering, or a closely aligned field. The successful candidate should also possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work with contractors. Computer proficiency is also necessary. Basic knowledge of Autocad or Microstation, GIS, and/or SketchUp is a plus but not required.
A valid driver's license is required. Outdoor work, occasionally in adverse weather conditions, is also required.
The internship offer is contingent upon the candidate's successful completion of a criminal background check and a pre-employment medical exam, including a drug screen.
