About this Position
The Permit Technician I takes responsibility for document acceptance, application review, preparation, and input of all building permits. The Permit Tech I has high customer interactions via phone, email, and in-person. The permit services tech also corresponds with contractors and provides information regarding building permit submittals.
This position operates on an alternate schedule and works from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday, and from 7:30am to 11:30am on Friday.
Responsibilities
- Receive, process, and input applications, forms, and other documents pertaining to building permits and licensing
- Answer telephone calls, greet visitors, direct callers/visitors to appropriate personnel, and record/relay messages
- Review incoming documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Perform reviews on storm shelter and retaining wall permits
- Provide general technical support to all Plan Reviewers and Building & Safety staff
- Create, maintain, and update departmental database
- Generate computer reports
- Assemble and distribute forms, packets, or other documentation as requested
- Receive payment for various services, record transactions, issue receipts, and balance revenues
- Research department files, database records, websites, and other sources
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 2 years of related experience and/or training in building, construction, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Must have or obtain International Code Council Permit Tech certification within 12 months of hire date
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
