They help with plant operations, equipment maintenance, and routine adjustments of machinery and equipment operating controls. The goal for this work is to be team-oriented, safety-minded, and focused on a task until completion.Operators must be able to work shifts, holidays, and on-call/standby hours as required. The primary shift will be from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, and the work week can either be five eight-hour days or four 10-hour days. The start time is flexible. Incumbents must live within 30 minutes of the facility to respond quickly during emergencies.ResponsibilitiesMake plant rounds to check equipment/processesMake minor adjustments/repairs as needed to ensure effective plant operationPerform routine preventive maintenance activitiesMonitor and control plant flow rates by controlling pumping operations at lift stationsComplete logs and operator records to document operating conditions and plant dataClean and maintain plant equipment, buildings, and groundsConduct laboratory analysis on regulated parameters and documentationConform to all safety rulesTake continuous education classes to maintain/upgrade ODEQ licensesObtain Wastewater Operator licenses according to the following schedule: Temporary license within 10 daysClass "D" license within six (6) monthsClass "C" Water Operator and Wastewater Works Laboratory Operator licenses within two (2) yearsQualificationsHigh school diploma or GED equivalent2 years of related experience and/or trainingOr equivalent combination of education and experienceWastewater Works Operator "B" license (preferred)Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrierNecessary SkillsAbility and willingness to take required continuous education classes to maintain/upgrade ODEQ licensesAbility and willingness to work shifts and holidays, including on-call hoursAbility to meet the required physical standards for this positionAbility to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug and audio screeningsBenefitsPotential to become an Operator II with experience and certificationsGenerous benefits package including health, vision, and dental insuranceAccess to a dedicated primary care medical clinic at no cost to employees and covered dependentsGenerous time off, paid holidays, longevity rewards, and retirement benefitsPaid parental leavePotential for bilingual payA tangible impact to the Water Resources Department and residents in the City of EdmondA dynamic and inclusive environment where your contributions are valued APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL POSITION IS FILLED.The City of Edmond is an equal opportunity employer.
