What are the responsibilities and job description for the Before and After School Program Leader position at City of Elgin?
Responsible for the overall safety and welfare of the participants in the before & after school program at District 301 elementary schools, planning activities and coordinating their program plans with staff to assure the success of the program.
This position reports directly to the Before/After School Site Leader and/or Community Recreation Supervisor.
- Supervise and account for approximately 8 - 10 participants on a daily basis.
- Will implement activities designated to promote fun, educational and character building and maximize safety and participate in all activities with the children.
- Be responsible for knowing all pertinent information of the children in the program including health and behavior concerns.
- Report any concerns and/or problems to the Before/After School Site Leaderr and/or BASE Coordinator as soon as possible.
- Maintain cleanliness of all areas of use and care properly for all equipment and supplies.
- Keep accurate records/reports and complete all written/records as required.
- Resolve problems and/or conflicts and deal with individuals and/or situations in a sensitive and mature manner.
- Work in a typically unstructured environment using a positive attitude, imagination and innovative techniques combined with solid leadership qualities.
- Maintain a positive public image and attitude with good public relations and customer service.
- Provide general information on Parks & Recreation activities and facilities.
- Wear appropriate staff uniform and attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings.
- Abide by all City of Elgin rules and regulations as outlined in the Employee Manual.
- Previous effective supervisory experience working with youth and/or teenagers preferably in a youth care setting preferred.
- Demonstrated reliability, initiative, and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work pleasantly with youth, families, school personnel and fellow employees.
- Ability to enforce all rules and policies of the program and the City at the facility in a diplomatic manner.
- Be able to handle multiple duties/tasks.
- CPR/AED certified within 3 months of employment.
August through June – 6:45 am to 9:15 am AND/OR 3:15 to 6:15 pm - Monday - Friday
Salary : $16 - $18
