SUMMARY:
The Fleet Maintenance Technician performs basic maintenance and repairs City owned fleet, including motor vehicles, construction equipment, power equipment, and other machinery.
Supervision:
Reports to: Division Supervisor; position will not have direct supervision over other staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
HS Diploma/GED, and related experience in vehicle and heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
License and Certifications:
Valid Texas Driver's license.
CDL license preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Performs preventive maintenance, lubrication, and other routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire replacement, brakes, steering, etc.
· Diagnoses and fixes mechanical issues.
· Prepare and maintain records of work performed.
· Assist with logistics.
· Receive work order forms to complete tasks.
· Keeps a detailed inventory of parts and tools.
· Procures and deletes assets as directed.
· May assist with mandatory fixes assets audits.
· Maintains the security and the safe working condition of all equipment and tools used.
· Supports special events by setting up, tearing down, and other miscellaneous duties.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Knowledge in the mechanical operation of light and heavy equipment, common tools, materials, and methods used in maintenance work.
· Knowledge of the procedures, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and reapir.
· Knowledge and understanding of safety precautions.
· Knowledge of using safe and effective operating practices in accordance with City and State safety policies and procedures.
· Skilled in time management.
· Skilled in troubleshooting mechanical issues.
· Skilled in safely lifting, pulling, and pushing materials and equipment.
· Ability to read vehicle diagnostics.
· Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and make reports on work performed.
· Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time while working on/or around hot asphalt.
· Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.

In a typical work setting, Fleet Maintenance Technician will:
Interpersonal Relationships
Consistently works with other team members in close proximity and interacts daily with office staff.
Hours/Travel
Usually works a standard 40-hour week, 5 days per week but may be required to work evenings or weekends to meet deadlines or for special projects/assignments.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
Requires physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 200 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job. This position will involve some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Works in indoor and outdoor conditions, in seasonal and weather conditions; drives a vehicle; subject to emergency situations.
May lift and move boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
Disaster Service Workers Clause
Always in the event of a declared emergency or any undeclared emergency or natural disaster that threatens the life, health and/or safety of the public, designated employees may be assigned to assist rescue and relief workers. Such assignments may be in locations, during hours and performing work significantly different from the employees’ normal work assignments and may continue through the recovery phase of the emergency.
