SUMMARY
Oversees the daily operations of the Library and performs related library services. Tasks include selecting, acquiring, cataloguing, classifying, circulating, and maintaining library materials, and furnishing reference, bibliographical, and readers’ advisory services. Seeks and administers grant funding; coordinates with State Library as needed to ensure best practices are followed; supervises library staff and may supervise other Community Services Department staff as assigned in the absence of the Community Services Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Plans, organizes and manages the collections of books, publications, documents, audiovisual aids, and other reference materials for convenient access; assembles and arranges display materials;
- Responsible for the set-up and utilization of databases and information systems to catalogue and access information;
- Studies and makes plans to develop the services of the library to more effectively meet present and future community needs including study of community and area trends and their relation to the library;
- Advises, consults, and confers with the Community Services Committee, City Council, citizens, and community groups; attends Community Services Committee meetings and makes presentations; may assist with conducting Community services Committee meetings as assigned;
- Reviews and evaluates resource material to select materials for acquisition adhering to all procurement and funding requirements; seeks funding to improve resources and acquisitions available to patrons; administers funding adhering to all procurement and reporting requirements;
- Assists patrons in selecting books and informational material and in research problems; codes, classifies, and catalogs books, publications, films, audiovisual aids, and other library materials; confers with teachers, parents, and community organizations to develop, plan, and conduct programs in reading, viewing, and communication skills; coordinates with Senior Center Supervisor to provide activities to senior citizens;
- Manages library resources stored in files, on film, or in computer databases for research information, to include library programs for children and other special groups; oversees selection of storage media to ensure best practices for storing and maintaining materials and data are adhered to;
- Explains use of library facilities, resources, equipment, and services and provides information governing library use and policies; catalogs information to facilitate the storage, and ability to search for, selected material or data; compiles lists of overdue materials and notifies borrowers; researches, retrieves, and disseminates information from books, periodicals, reference materials or commercial databases in response to requests;
- Responsible for preparing, presenting, and administering the Library budget;
- Directs public information efforts to promote and publicize Library services to the community;
- Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must have or be able to obtain within six months of hire, New Mexico State Library Grade II Certification which generally includes the knowledge, skills, and abilities that would be obtained by graduation from an accredited college or university with a minor in library science OR thirty (30) semester hours of library science courses from an accredited college or university; OR by passing the New Mexico State Library certification examination.
