The City of Everett is accepting applications on an open/competitive basis for the Civil Service examination process for UTILITIES ELECTRICIAN in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT.
About the Job:
Under general supervision of the Operations Superintendent or designee, this is work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of electrical equipment, instrumentation, and industrial process control systems associated with water and wastewater utilities distribution, collection, transmission and treatment systems, and associated emergency power generation systems.
The work involves assisting in a variety of skilled tasks maintaining, installing, adjusting and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment and systems relating to water and wastewater collection, treatment, distribution and pumping facilities. The work may require occasional operation of machinery, but the emphasis is upon servicing, repairing, maintaining, replacing, upgrading, troubleshooting, and the safe work practices of working on and around electrical and mechanical equipment and systems. Employees in this classification may be assigned projects at varied locations and are expected to become familiar with electro/mechanical maintenance requirements throughout the department.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Graduation from a high school or vocational school, possession of a general journey level (ELO1) electrician license, AND three (3) years of related journey level electrical experience in an industrial setting; OR a current City of Everett employee who has maintained an ELO1 electrician license for at least one (1) year.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR CERTIFICATIONS
- Possession of a valid driver license at the date of hire, and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Washington State Driver License within 30 days of hire.
- Possession of a Washington State ELO1 electrician license.

- Applications must be submitted through the City’s online application system by 5:00 p.m. on January 23, 2025, to be considered.
- LATE, INCOMPLETE, FAXED, OR EMAILED APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
EXAMINATION STEPS
- There will be a pre-screening of all applications.
- Responses to the supplemental questionnaire will be individually reviewed and evaluated (weighted 20%).
- Top-scoring applicants will be called to a written exam (weighted 40%) and a practical (weighted 40%), tentatively scheduled for mid-February, both parts of the exam are to be conducted on the same day.
- All vacancies in this job class will be filled from the ranked Civil Service register established from the examination process for 12 months.
IMPORTANT NOTES
- A passing grade of 70.00 or higher is required on all parts of the screening process for placement on the ranked Civil Service eligible register.
- The examination process is designed to sample and measure the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Applicants claiming veterans’ preference points in accordance with RCW 41.04.010 as amended and meeting eligibility criteria must submit form DD214, or its equivalent or successor discharge paperwork, that characterizes his or her service as qualifying discharge as defined in RCW 73.04.005.
- Any position requiring a CDL, or the performance of a safety sensitive function will be subject to the City of Everett’s random Drug and Alcohol Policy, per Federal DOT regulations.
- Extensive background checks will be conducted.
- Hiring offers are contingent upon successful completion of a City-paid medical evaluation and possible drug screen.
- New hires begin employment at the first step of the salary range.
