What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fitness Attendant position at City of Federal Way?
*NOTE: This is a temporary, part-time position with no benefits. Hours may vary, up to 17.5 hours/week. Must be able to work evenings, Saturdays and Sundays.
Under the direction of the Federal Way Community Center Fitness & Athletic Coordinator; Our fitness attendants are an integral part of our membership services by providing a welcoming, clean, safe and fun place to exercise at the Federal Way Community Center. They are responsible for orientating new members to the facility and introducing them other members, sharing their knowledge about the facilities fitness offerings, leading facility tours, and keeping the second floor clean and serviceable.
During this time our Fitness Attendants are vital in ensuring that guests are following the rules and procedures that we have in place. Our facility will be operating on a reservation system and Fitness Attendants will need to make sure that they are walking around the building to make sure guests are adhering to reservations times that they have reserved.
The Fitness Attendant will also be responsible for cleaning common areas, equipment and enforcing all social distancing guidelines. The right person will have to be comfortable enforcing all of the rules set forth by the center.
- Maintain cleanliness of entire second floor, fitness area and equipment.
- Welcome and assist members, introduce them to staff and other members.
- Monitor appropriate usage and enforce rules.
- Provide facility tours for visitors.
- Orientate new pass holder to the fitness equipment and educate them on all of the offerings for group fitness, personal training and other programs.
- Ensure the safety of pass holders by keeping facility organized and offering a spot or direction on proper technique and form.
- Maintain an environment of teamwork with good communication and by having fun.
- Promote personal goal attainment for participants by asking about their goals and holding them accountable each time they visit.
- Teach small group fitness programs may provide one on one personal training service outside of their scheduled shifts.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to take initiative, make sound decisions, and trouble shoot problematic situations in an independent manner.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license.
- National Personal Training Certification.
- Current First Aid, CPR and AED cards required.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check.
