What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator I position at City of Fond du Lac?

Under general supervision, the Equipment Operator I will primarily be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of specialized equipment relating to the construction and maintenance of city infrastructure. Also required is the execution of other duties as assigned pertaining to the daily operations within Public Works.
General Qualifications and/or knowledge, skills, and willingness to learn the following include:
· Use of basic hand and power tools
· Participate in annual leaf collection program
· Plow, salt, load, and haul snow
· Haul and dump refuse
· Routine vehicle maintenance; i.e. check oil, tire pressure, battery
· Maneuver equipment trailer behind a dump truck
- Operation of Combination Sewer Cleaning Truck
- Operation of Mechanical Street Sweepers
- Knowledge of Storm water and Sanitary Sewer Collection System
- Ability to work independently or in a team setting
- Possession of a valid Wisconsin Commercial “Class A” Driver’s License without air brake restrictions and with tanker endorsement. (City paid training to achieve and reimbursement for renewals.)

Salary Range: We offer a competitive compensation package ($30 – $37/hour) based upon knowledge, skills, and abilities with potential to receive additional step increases based on meeting and/or exceeding goals/expectations; annual COLA and step increases pending City Council approval of budgets; and future promotional opportunities in alignment with succession and career path.
