Custodial/Janitorial Maintenance Worker

To perform routine custodial and building service activities.

• This is an entry-level position.
• Previous experience in custodial duties and responsibilities is preferred but not required.

• Must pass pre-employment drug testing and submit to periodic drug testing as required by applicable laws.
• Maintains a neat and orderly storage area for supplies.
• Some assignments require the incumbent to possess a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
• Subject to working a varied schedule including some evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Cleaning, disinfecting agents, and polishing agents including their proper use and application.

• Operate hand controlled appliances and other assigned equipment;
• Utilize appropriate safety equipment and follow appropriate safety procedures and precautions when carrying out essential functions;

1. Cleans assigned buildings and facilities including dusting surfaces and fixtures; scrubbing, mopping, stripping, waxing, vacuuming, and/or polishing floors and woodwork; and washing windows and other fixtures.
2. Cleans and disinfects bathrooms and maintains proper supplies for facilities.
3. Utilizes appropriate equipment and tools including vacuum, hoses, sprayers, dust/wet mop, buffer, floor scrubber, carpet extractor, small tools, etc.
4. Reads labels and mixes chemicals according to instructions.
5. Picks up trash and litter throughout assigned areas, including picking up recycled paper from established locations, and disposes appropriately. Depending on assignment, disposal may include delivery to landfill and recycling centers.
6. Maintains equipment and materials and replenishes supplies.
7. Utilizes appropriate safety equipment and procedures.
8. Assists in light labor activities such as moving furniture, heavy equipment, and supplies.
9. Follows appropriate security measures such as locking doors and windows. Maintains supply records as necessary.
10. Removes snow and ice and applies ice melt on sidewalks and areas around buildings.

Environment

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is usually indoors, in a controlled environment, and experiences a moderate noise level in the work environment.

Physical

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; bend; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop or kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 20 - 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
