GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Under general supervision, perform full range of police duties including routine patrol, law enforcement, preliminary investigations, and traffic control for a designated area on an assigned shift. With experience and training, may be assigned to specialized assignments including, but not limited to investigations, tactical, community relations, school resource, and administrative or staff functions.

Police Officer Recruit - ENTRY LEVEL - $27.1494 per hour/ $60,000.17 Annually
Police Officer 1 - Commissioned Officer - $28.4797 per hour/ $62,940.14 Annually
Police Officer 2 - $29.8752 per hour/ $66,024.19 Annually
Police Officer 3 - $31.3154 per hour/ $69,207.03 Annually
Police Officer 4 - $32.8807 per hour/ $72,666.35 Annually
Police Officer 5 - $34.5248 per hour/ $76,299.81 Annually

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Patrol designated area of the City by radio equipped car, bicycle, or on foot to prevent, discover, and deter crime, enforce criminal law, direct traffic, and enforce motor vehicle operation and parking regulations.
- Respond to calls and complaints involving fire, automobile accidents, domestic and neighborhood disturbances, assaults, robberies, and other misdemeanors and felonies.
- Write detailed reports on police-related activities.
- Interview persons with complaints and make proper disposition or direct them to the proper authorities.
- Secure crime scenes, administer first aid, arbitrate disputes, conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations, gather evidence, obtain witness statements, apprehend suspects, make arrests and transport offenders.
- Enter and retrieve data and information using a Mobile Data Terminal (MDT).
- Give advice and general information to inquiries from the public.
- When assigned, conduct criminal and/or undercover investigations.
- Testify as a witness in court in connection with written citations, arrests and investigations.
- Assist in the training of departmental personnel
- Attend periodic training classes in police methods, first aid, firearms and related subjects.
- Keep informed and aware of persons and places suspected of illegal activity and/or potential for problems within assigned area.
- Must be punctual and timely in meeting all job performance requirements, including but not limited to, attendance and tardiness standards and work deadlines.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with desk functions by answering phone, greeting and assisting visitors and taking incident reports.
- Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- General knowledge of department rules and regulations
- Knowledge of police methods, practices and procedures
- Thorough knowledge of the geography of the City
- Skill in communicating in writing and/or in person on a one-on-one basis for the purpose of influencing, motivating and convincing. Skill in mediating conflicts
- Proficient skill in the use of firearms
- Skill in operating a personal computer and related police software applications and programs.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written orders
- Ability to prepare clear and concise written reports and documents
- Ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective, and reasonable courses of action with due regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances
- Ability to maintain an extremely high degree of alertness and concentration, and to drive a patrol car for an eight-hour shift
- Ability to meet State physical and psychological standards
- Ability to maintain confidential information
Must be a citizen of the United States.
Must not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of any federal or state law or city ordinances relating to force violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substance.
Must never have been discharged from any branch of the Armed Forces under other than honorable conditions.
Must have a good driving record.
Must possess a valid Driver License.
