The purpose of this job is to perform inspections for compliance with Municipal, State, and National codes and identify defects and potential hazards. Performs residential and commercial electrical inspections. Consults with engineers, architects, developers, contractors, owners, and the general public.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.Conducts inspections of industrial, residential and commercial electrical systems to assure compliance with municipal and national electrical codes and to identify defects in building wiring systems; inspects specialized systems, such as computer rooms, and fire and security alarm systems; conducts inspections of potentially hazardous installation; takes action as necessary to assure safetyInvestigates electrical fires and electrical system complaints; consults with fire department on questionable fires; notifies power company of approved servicesConsults with engineers, electricians, developers, contractors and owners regarding the provisions of the electrical codes, ordinances, laws and design criteria and requirementsMaintains records and prepares reports on electrical inspection activities; writes violation letters to order owners to repair or replace electrical systems; issues permits, corrective orders and violation noticesAnswers questions from the public, realtors, contractors and buildersPrepares cases for court enforcement; testifies in courtProcesses hazardous electrical complaints and rental certificationsPerforms related work as required
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
High School diploma--AND--At least four (4) years of experience in the electrical trade at the journey level --OR--Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilitiesRequired Licenses or CertificationsElectrical Journeyman LicenseState Electrical Inspector within 6 months of hire
