DESCRIPTION OF WORK
You are the community-minded and visionary leader of a dynamic library team. You have a solid understanding of public library work, and you know how to inspire your department to create positive programs and services that impact the quality of life in our community. You see the big picture and are a strategic thinker, always planning for the future.
QUALIFICATIONS
A master’s degree in library science or related field plus five years of increasingly responsible library administration experience, including at least three years in a supervisory capacity.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Obtain within 6 months of hire and maintain Nebraska Public Librarian Certification.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- You are a strategic thinker, planning and reviewing department goals, policies, services and programs according to community needs. You ensure the library continues to meet Nebraska library accreditation standards and maintains a current and forward-thinking strategic plan.
- You create a culture of collaboration with your leadership team to oversee the selection, evaluation, coaching and mentoring of staff. You build trust among staff as your team organizes tasks and assignments, bringing out the best in your colleagues while working together toward a shared vision in a fiscally responsible way.
- You set the strategic direction for the leadership team, providing guidance and support to help ensure their success and the success of their respective departments – including personnel management, goal setting and evaluation.
- You are the face of the library to the community – with the City Council, Hastings Library Foundation, community partners, media, and customers – you are consistent in presenting a positive image of the City of Hastings and the library brand and shaping and promoting the library’s vision for the community.
- You are fiscally responsible, coordinating and supervising an annual budget and overseeing the development and maintenance of library facilities.
HOURS
This is a FLSA exempt position.
Hours will include evenings and weekends.
