What are the responsibilities and job description for the Street Operator-in-Training position at City of Idaho Falls?
The City of Idaho Falls is accepting applications for a Street Operator-in-Training. The position performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled duties related to the construction, maintenance, or repair of city streets, alleys, storm drains, and City-owned property.
Uses a variety of hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, picks, brooms, pitch forks, etc.; sweeps alleys and sidewalks, hand shovels snow, hand salts and sands, cleans up debris and construction waste.
Loads or unloads supplies; lifts and moves heavy objects; lifts and carries gravel, dirt, asphalt, timber, or other materials in the maintenance of streets, structures, or property owned by the City.
Prepares the ground for application of asphalt, concrete, or pre-mix materials to streets or roadways and assists in raking, smoothing, and tamping repaired patches.
Operates small power tools, tampers, snow blower, or roller; may operate pick-up or small vehicle in transportation of materials; checks equipment on a daily basis to assure that it is operating safely and correctly.
Sets up and removes barricades as needed to redirect traffic; places pavement markings, installs street signage; assists in snow removal operations; assists in filling and placing sandbags during flood control.
Operates sanding truck and snowplow and occasionally operates dump truck.
Performs related duties as required.
1. Education and Experience:
A. Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an ability or aptitude to perform above duties.
AND
B. Some experience in the operation of heavy-duty trucks preferred
OR
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Some knowledge of City geography; some knowledge of basic maintenance procedures; some knowledge of hazards and safety precautions related to above duties; some knowledge of the operation of standard hand and power tools.
Some skill in the operation of standard hand tools and heavy-duty trucks.
Ability to work in all weather extremes; ability to perform strenuous physical labor; ability to operate small, motorized vehicles and pick-up; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to develop effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
3. Special Qualifications:
Must possess a valid Idaho Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement, Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement preferred.
Must work on a twenty-four (24) hour stand-by on call basis.
May be required to become Flagger Certified.
Residency Requirement: Shall be expected, within six months of hire, to establish residence within a 45-minute notification response zone from the Street Division Administration Building.
Salary : $40,581 - $56,285
