What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Reserve (Volunteer) position at City of Inver Grove Heights?
The Inver Grove Heights Police Department is accepting applications to build a list of citizens interested in becoming a Police Reserve. The Police Reserve is a non-paid, volunteer position.
The reserve unit is comprised of local citizens who are dedicated to their community and its safety. They assist the community by providing reliable personnel to the police department.
The reserves are a large part of the “community policing” concept. They often assist with local events, emergencies, natural disasters and special assignments.
Reserves are individuals who have an interest in law enforcement or are pursuing a law enforcement career. They want to give back, and be a part of, the community through active service. They help to contribute to the safety and security of our community.
Training
Just like our sworn officers, the reserves train to the highest level possible. Training is required before a reserve officer can participate in assignments or activities. They must complete training in the following areas:
o traffic control
o handcuffing
o defensive tactics
o arrest and transport tactics
o firearms qualifications
o citizen contacts
o general duties
Reserve Duties:
Attend:
o Monthly Meetings
o Trainings
o Scheduled events
Conduct:
o Park patrols
o Ride along with on duty officers
o Event traffic and crowd control
Events:
Some of the scheduled events the reserves actively participate in include:
o Inver Grove Heights Days
o Night to Unite
o Simley High School Sports Events
o Polar Plunge for Special Olympics
o Safety Fairs and Carnivals
o Charity runs, walks and rides
o Nearby town festivals and events
o Assisting with traffic and crowd control for crime scenes and natural disasters.Reserve Requirements:
We have 9 simple requirements to be eligible to be an Inver Grove Heights Police Reserve Officer.
o US Citizen
o Resident of Dakota County or work/attend school in Inver Grove Heights
o 18 years of age
o High school or GED graduate
o No felony convictions
o Good driving record
o No drug or domestic violence convictions
o Able to pass a background investigation
o Have good personal conductThe Police Reserve position is a continuous posting. Applications are reviewed on a periodic basis and if an interview is decided communication will be sent via email.
