The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for an Inventory Control Manager with the Fleet Management Department. The employee performs difficult technical work in managing and coordinating the operations of the over-all warehousing system and parts room involving the acquisition, receipt and distribution of a wide range of materials, supplies and equipment; does related work as required. The employee in this class is responsible for operating warehouses which stock a variety of commodities. Primarily the employee is responsible for: the receipt, inspection, custody and issuance of supplies; maintaining centralized perpetual inventory records; and the requisitioning of stock replenishment. Also, the employee may be expected to assist in the customer service functions of the department. The work requires accuracy in posting and maintaining records. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate attendants.
Essential Functions of Position:
- orders and stocks employee uniforms, safety boots and equipment;
- orders, stocks and distributes pipe, manhole parts and other supplies;
- establishes policies and procedures for inventory control, warehousing and storeroom operation;
- maintains and controls stock level of warehouse materials;
- directs inventory control system, indicating minimum and maximum levels of stock;
- assists in budget preparation;
- receives parts, and checks incoming parts against invoices;
- process repair orders for outside work;
- posts appropriate data to work order;
- processes requests for parts for various types of equipment;
- researches parts availability;
- prepares and approves invoices for payment;
- manages OE parts inventory for warranty compliance;
- determines correct current unit price of inventory on a daily basis;
- assigns stock numbers;
- inspects warehouse, storeroom and yards for cleanliness and orderliness;
- coordinates deliveries and arranges for transportation;
- provides proper security for stocked items;
- opens warehouse for emergency service after hours;
- insures compliance with safety policies and regulations;
- operate forklifts of different types;
- procure parts using City purchasing card per P-card policies and procedures;
- performs related tasks as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of stockroom, inventory, warehousing methods and practices; thorough knowledge of a wide variety of tools, parts, materials and supplies; ability to manage stores operation and to supervise the work of others; ability to determine quality of goods against prescribed specifications; ability to keep stores activity and inventory records and to prepare periodic reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with administrative officials, employees and the public; integrity.
Acceptable Experience and Training: Completion of high school or GED supplemented by training in applied science and business and considerable stockroom experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Warehouse operation and considerable experience in warehousing, inventory and stores records activities, including work in a supervisory capacity; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
