Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The job duties listed are the general job duties and responsibilities for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Tier 1 Base Entry Level:
Mans a lifeguard stationary or roaming station in order to maintain safety of patrons.
Monitors activities at the pool to prevent accidents
Practices preventative lifeguard measures and performs water rescues
Administers First Aid/ CPR/ AED as necessary
Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards; enforces and adheres to pool rules and regulations
Follows emergency action plan and procedures established in the event of an emergency
Maintains order in the pool and adjoining areas
Inspects facilities for cleanliness; completes general pool cleaning and maintenance duties
Assists in the supervision of special activities and pool parties.
Assists aquatic patrons with various needs pertaining to the pool areas.
Attends all training and in-services as required
Must have ARC certification.
Maintain a professional and personable demeanor while working with participants, staff, and visitors.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Tier 2:
All Tier I duties
Experience lifeguarding for 1 full year or 2 full summers with ARC certification.
Able to work independently of direct supervision
Assist with shadowing new employees in their respective job description.
Tier 3:
Tier II duties and additional responsibilities associated with job position.
Has at least 1 additional certification (i.e. LGI, AAA/ISMA, or aquatic related) and actively use the certification for the facility.
Assist with in-services and additional team training.
· Knowledge of general aquatic operating policies and procedures;
· Knowledge of modern first aid and water safety techniques.;
· Ability to assist in the planning, organizing, and coordination of pool activities and events;
· Ability to follow oral and written instruction;
· Ability to effectively respond in the event of an emergency.
· Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with department staff and the general public;
· Skill in performing basic pool facility maintenance;
Must be a minimum age of 15 and have a current Red Cross Certification in Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED, and First Aid; or must be able to obtain certification for continued employment.
