Performs intermediate skilled trades work operating a variety of medium to heavy automotive, construction and specialty equipment, and related work as required. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the assigned Crew Supervisor. Full supervision is exercised over assigned crew members.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Operates a variety of medium to heavy equipment for installing, maintaining, operating, and repairing water and wastewater lines, pumps, streets, sidewalks, drainage, etc. Use equipment for demolition, tree removal, grading, etc.Operates medium and heavy equipment such as backhoes, excavators, skid loaders, front-end loader, dump truck, large water tanker trucks, heavy capacity wastewater jet trucks, pneumatic and stem driven trenchless boring equipment, tampers, trenchers, air compression equipment, tractors and similar motorized vehicles and small equipment.Operates equipment in street, pedestrian traffic and other properties, around other ground utilities, and in other tight places requiring care and skill.Operates tractor trailer to haul equipment and material. Performs preventative maintenance and makes minor repairs to equipment; cleans and washes equipment on periodic basis.Physically assist with repair and installation of utility system components, pavements, and other work assigned. Performs work in high traffic areas.Performs minor maintenance and repairs, assist with more complex maintenance and repairs. Performs on call/standby duty dependent on assigned division; responds to emergency and customer service calls; makes independent decisions; takes actions as appropriate to solve problems.Responds to and resolves work orders for customer complaints and problems.When not operating heavy equipment, operates light to medium equipment; trains new employees on assigned equipment.Performs related task as required.

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently sitting, speaking or hearing and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a very loud noise location (e.g. jack hammer work, garbage recycle plant).
