Performs semiskilled work in the care and repair of automotive equipment, and related work as required. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assisting with the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment; performing general custodial duties in the garage.The following functions are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Assists in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment; hands tools, parts and materials to Mechanics as requested.Lifts, holds and carries parts; positions parts and uses tools as directed.Washes and cleans equipment.Lubricates machinery; changes oil and repacks bearings.Changes tires and repairs tubes.Participates in overhauling, repairing and adjusting gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, electrical components, brakes, steering mechanism, pumps and hydraulic systems.Helps in cleaning garage and surrounding area.Performs related tasks as required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently standing and occasionally requires walking, speaking or hearing, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has no special vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. heavy traffic, large earth-moving equipment).
