Children’s Services summer assistants will be responsible for providing services to children and families through program planning and implementation, reference instruction and searches, and readers' advisory. Helen Hall Library Children’s Services is a fast paced, and often loud environment. This position is expected to work 40 hours which can be days, evenings, and weekends. The positions can be filled as early as mid-May and work through the end of August.

Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.- Assist with children’s summer library program by preparing crafts, program setup and clean up, and shelving materials
- Assist patrons in obtaining information from library materials, databases, and electronic resources
- Assist patrons with Beanstack management, logs off-line patrons, and passes out prizes
- Provide reader's advisory to children and their caregivers
- Attend and assists with library outreach events and offsite programs
- Other duties as assigned
- Must be able to work 40 hours a week.
- Must be able to work any combination of days, nights, and weekends.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
- Professional experience working with children (birth to age 11).
- Experience working in a public or school library with children is preferred.
- Any combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the level of required knowledge and abilities will be considered.
- Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and children’s literature
- Knowledge of children’s developmental milestones
- Experience with e-mail, Microsoft Office Suite, databases, and Canva.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects
- Willingness to expand skill set to keep current with advances in technology and field changes
- Ability to assist with and/or planning and implementing programs for families and children from birth to 11 years old
- Ability to provide excellent customer service in person, phone, or email to patrons of ages, abilities, and backgrounds
- Ability to work independently, self-motivated, and self-supervised
- Ability to work in a noisy and bustling environment
Salary : $15 - $22
