Starting Pay: $15.60 per hour

SUMMARY: The Lewiston Public Library is seeking an energetic, self-motivated person with good customer service and communication skills to join its team!
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma (or equivalent) and computer skills are required. Prior work experience in the fields of public safety, public health, social work, or teaching would be beneficial.
WORK ACTIVITIES: The Building Monitor is responsible for monitoring the safety and behavior of visitors inside the library building and on library grounds. They represent the Library as a familiar, friendly face that is frequently visible to patrons in all parts of the building. Working closely with library staff, the Building Monitor plays an active, leading role in educating visitors about the Library’s “Rules of Conduct”, by explaining what is and is not allowed, issuing appropriate warnings and sanctions based upon established Library guidelines when rules are violated. Works in collaboration with Library leadership to improve building security. Candidates should be able to stand/walk for most of their shift and have sufficient computer skills to monitor a security camera system, write incident reports, and use email. Desired qualifications include the ability to work well with library users of all ages and backgrounds, and manage challenging situations patiently and assertively in a non-confrontational manner. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team and show active interest in learning about the full range of services the Library offers.
The Lewiston Public Library is open Mon-Thurs 9:30am-7:00pm; Friday and Saturday 9:30am-1:00pm.
