Job Summary:
Skilled to semi-skilled work in maintenance and operations of water distribution system, sewer collection system, and wastewater lift stations.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Ø Perform installation and repair of water distribution system to include but limited to, water mains, valves, meters, fire hydrant, and water services
Ø Perform installation and repair of wastewater collection system to include but not limited to, sewer laterals, gravity mains, manholes, force mains, and lift stations
Ø Complete work orders for water and wastewater system
Ø Performs light interior and exterior building maintenance and housekeeping
Ø Perform line locates for water and wastewater system through 811
Ø Assist water operator as needed with water quality in water treatment plant and distribution system
Ø This position is considered essential personal, assist in recovery of water distribution, wastewater collections system, and wastewater lift stations after a disaster
Ø Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ø Knowledge of operation and maintenance requirements of water and
Ø wastewater system
Ø Basic physical and chemical analyses for potable water quality analysis
Ø Ability to read meters, charts, and gauges. Maintain records and reports
Ø Knowledge of chemistry and math
Ø Ability to interpret written and/or oral instructions and reports
Ø Acceptable eyesight and hearing. (With or without correction)
Ø May require lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds
Ø Climbing, walking, depth perception, sitting, and good balance
Education and/or Training:
Ø High school diploma or equivalency diploma
Ø Possession of a valid class "3" Water Distribution System Operator certification issued by the State of Florida (FAC 62-602) or the ability to obtain within 2 years
Ø Progress toward a required licenses must be shown within the first year of hire
Ø Must possess a valid Florida driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the City's driving policy and insurance program
Community Relations Functions:
Ø Must be able to interact and communicate with public
Ø Ability to answer public inquiries about water and/or wastewater system
Ø Handle customer complaints with regard to water and/or wastewater system
Work Environment:
Ø Work is primarily outdoor exposure to weather and field conditions
Ø Exposure to extreme noise, odors, dust, heights, and irate customers
Ø Exposure to hazardous chemicals, heavy equipment, moving machinery
Ø This position may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and may require the ability to pass a medical evaluation
Tools and Equipment:
Ø Ability to operate backhoe, tamper, trencher, jack hammer, tapping machine, saws (both hand and power), service trucks, pumps, voltmeter, amp meter, various hand tools, shovels, rakes
Supervision Received and Exercised:
Ø This position reports to Utilities Superintendent and/or Utility Foreman

Pay: $17.00 - $25.12 per hour
