What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Aide I - Part-time position at City of North Miami?
Performs a variety of paraprofessional duties in a public library; does related duties as required.
Staffs the Circulation Desk;
Interprets basic library policy;
Processes circulation and registration records and safeguards confidentiality of same;
Performs tasks necessary for the overdue process such as generating emails and related patron correspondence, searching shelves, checking problems, making phone calls, etc.
Inputs and outputs computerized bibliographic data and maintains cataloging records;
Processes library materials utilizing labels, book jackets, laminate, etc.;
Assists patrons in the selection and location of books, periodicals, non-print, and other materials;
Answers simple reference questions from print, electronic and Internet sources;
Assists patrons in the use of OPAC (On-Line Public Access Catalog) and Internet Computers;
Monitors library facility to ensure compliance with Code of Conduct; Performs a wide variety of clerical tasks
- At least 16 years’ old
- Can work evenings and weekends
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in English at an 8th grade level
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to work with a diverse community
- Knowledge of library principles, methods, techniques, and procedures
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office
- Proficient knowledge in library systems
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public community
