Nature of Work
Under general supervision acts as lead-driver on packer truck on a prescribed route.
Examples of Work Performed
Acts as lead-driver on sanitation route; assures that collections are on schedule and adequate; may drive truck to transfer station, unload, and return.
Supervises Relief Driver/Loaders.
Responsible for cleaning, servicing, and minor maintenance on packer truck.
Observes and reports possible ordinance violations.
Empties refuse and garbage cans; picks up tree limbs, household furnishings, and all other types of bulky trash.
Submits records of volume and/or weight of refuse collected; submits record of vehicle malfunctions and daily vehicle check.
Assist in snow and ice control and other emergency situations; may assist other divisions of the Public Service Department.
May fill in as compost or transfer station worker; may pick up, deliver, or maintain solid waste containers and recycling.
May operate loader or backhoe.
Performs other work which is consistent with the essential elements of the job.
Desirable Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
- Knowledge of ordinances and regulations relating to sanitation and refuse. Some knowledge of vehicle maintenance
- Ability to drive a packer truck under adverse conditions and in close quarters
- Ability to lead other employees
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, officials, and the public
- Ability to communicate in person, by telephone and/or two-way radio, ability to comprehend instructions
Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training equivalent to completion of high school, with some experience as a laborer or truck operator.
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License as required by the State of Nebraska.

Pay: $19.23 - $27.40 per hour
