Job Summary

Position: Vegetation/Stormwater Maintenance Worker (Full-Time; Non-Exempt) Department: Public Works (Stormwater / Vegetation) Job Summary: The Vegetation/Stormwater Maintenance Worker performs a variety of routine and semi-skilled activities in the preservation of City-owned right-of-ways. A majority of the work performed (75%) is in vegetation control which includes mowing weeding edging litter pick-up and tree maintenance. The position also includes stormwater construction and maintenance of drainage infrastructure and right-of-way maintenance in the off season. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Stormwater/Vegetation Supervisor and does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Salary:

$17.12 - $21.40 per hour; depending on qualifications and experience

Monday – Friday; 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Essential Functions

May include but not limited to:

• Vegetation control – operate mowers; weed trimmers; edging tools; sometimes for extended periods of time

• Tree Maintenance – operate various mechanical saws and trimmers

• Drainage maintenance including cleaning clogged storm drains

• Fence repairs

• Litter and debris pick-up

• Small construction projects

• Drive trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading; hauling and unloading of various equipment; pipe; gravel; dirt and sand

• Share “On-Call” responsibility for emergency call-out situation

• Perform other duties as assigned in a positive manner which supports the vision and strategic objectives of the division/department and the entire organization of the City of Owasso

Minimum Qualifications; Education and/or Experience

• 
  High School Diploma or GED equivalent

• Valid Oklahoma driver license with good driving record; and “Class B” CDL certification or the ability to obtain CDL certification within six months of hire

• Prefer experience operating zero-turn mowers; trimmers and other tools

• Prefer one year of construction related experience

• Ability to perform manual labor over an extended period of time and in varying weather conditions; ability to lift weight related to maintenance operations; 80 pounds unassisted

• Ability to follow instructions; safety rules and procedures

• Ability to perform effectively in a team or individual work environment

Working Environment and Physical Requirements

Work will be performed mostly outdoors in all types of weather conditions including extreme temperatures; hot and cold; wet and/or humid conditions; in mud and/or standing water; possibly exposed to vehicle traffic; loud noise; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and may occasionally work in high; precarious places; confined spaces or open trenches; and may require use of personal protective equipment. The work environment may also include exposure to drafts; noise; dust; grease; and traffic; and may require use of personal protective equipment.

Tasks require ability to lift/push/pull/ and/or move up to 80 pounds; and typically involve some combination of walking; sitting; or standing for extended periods of time; walking; balancing; climbing; bending; crawling; crouching; feeling; handling; hearing; kneeling; reaching; repetitive motion; and mental and visual acuity.
