What are the responsibilities and job description for the AUTOMOTIVE SERVICES SUPERVISOR position at City of Parkersburg?
Reports Directly to the Public Works Director.
JOB SUMMARY: Plans, organizes, schedules and supervises the maintenance and repair program for municipal vehicles and equipment. Work performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, standards and scheduled under the general direction of the Public Works Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1) Plans, directs, coordinates and controls the activities of the vehicle maintenance staff including, payroll, recommendations for hiring, assigning and reviewing work, performance evaluation, scheduling leave, and providing daily work instruction;
2) Assists in the preparation of and monitors the Division budget;
3) Oversees purchasing of equipment and supplies, inventory control and accounting procedures;
4) Assures that services delivered by staff meet quality and timeliness standards;
5) Plans for the addition of new services and/or the expansion of unit functions;
6) Attends staff and other meetings as required;
7) Maintains a preventive maintenance program for fleet vehicles and other municipal equipment;
8) Provides support and technical assistance to mechanics and service personnel;
9) Maintains records and completes various reports;
10) Maintains department files and records of equipment and vehicles;
11) Establishes goals and objectives for division and staff;
12) Coordinates warranty repair work with the automotive equipment dealers;
13) Prepares specifications on automotive equipment for the Purchasing Division;
14) Checks to see that all newly received automotive equipment meets the specifications;
15) Analyzes the potential of used automotive equipment under consideration of purchase and reports findings, conclusions, and recommendations to the Purchasing Division;
16) Maintains computerized records of work orders and the repair and maintenance history of all city automotive equipment;
17) Analyzes such data periodically in order to make recommendations concerning the replacement of automotive equipment and to identify possible abusive operator actions; and
18) Performs other related duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school, or GED, preferably supplemented with formal and continuing education in relevant areas; or two (2) years’ experience and training. Must have supervisory experience, along with considerable experience analyzing the repair and maintenance needs of automotive equipment.
Satisfactory computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, email). Satisfactory interpersonal and communication skills. Requires the exercise of considerable discretion and independent judgement. Proficiency in organizing, prioritizing and multi-tasking.
Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class B). Must possess a West Virginia State Inspector’s license.
