What are the responsibilities and job description for the Street Laborer position at City of Republic?
Primary Purpose
Assist in general repair and maintenance of City streets, waterways, grounds, and other property as assigned.
Supervision
Under the direct supervision of the Street Project Supervisor, or as assigned.
- Works as a member of a crew to repair, clean, and/or maintain city streets and/or property.
- Picks up trash, rocks, leaves, limbs, debris, and concrete blocks and loads into containers or dump trucks for removal.
- Sprays or hand-paints guard rails, drainage grates, buildings, or equipment as required.
- Assists in building concrete forms and placing concrete or asphalt for construction projects as required.
- Maintains simple records, logs, etc., as required.
- Reads and applies instructions and labels for product and equipment operation.
- Utilizes appropriate safety equipment and procedures.
- Maintains facilities and work area as needed.
- Utilizes and applies chemicals such as insecticides, fertilizers, root control chemicals, etc., as necessary.
- Installs and repairs street signs.
- Services and makes minor repairs to assigned equipment.
- Maintains equipment and tools through proper care and maintenance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Important Duties
- Attends in-service training sessions or other training sessions deemed appropriate by supervisor or department head.
- Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
Education & Experience
Must have one year of general labor experience which includes experience in the use of farm style tractors, zero turn mowers, service trucks and standard and automatic transmissions vehicles.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of principles, procedures, and equipment involved in the construction, maintenance, or repair of a variety of public roads, grounds, or other related projects preferred; Must be able to operate equipment such as hand and power tools, and vehicles in a manner consistent with safety principles; Must be able to memorize and retain technical information; Must have good cognitive and analytical skills; Must have good time management skills; Must be able to handle stressful situations; Must be able to effectively communicate through written and verbal skills; Must be able to quickly assess or judge situations and make decisions under pressure in areas of responsibility.

Licensing/Certification Requirements
- Must be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License that will allow the driver to have ability to operate a vehicle with airbrakes within six months of hire.
- Must possess a valid Missouri State Driver’s License.
Miscellaneous Requirements
- May be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays.
- Subject to emergency call-in.
- Must be a dependable person due to the small size of the work force.
- Will be subject to random substance abuse testing.
Physical Demands
Performs bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, kneeling, and reaching to ground level and overhead; Must be able to reach, grip and hold; Must be able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time; Must be able to lift 30 pounds above their head; Must be able to push, pull and carry 80 pounds.
Work Environment
Both indoor and outdoor working environments with exposure to dust and pollen, toxic fumes, chemicals or smoke, contagious diseases, electrical and mechanical hazards associated with equipment, extreme noise; Subject to variety of extreme weather condition; Susceptible to safety hazards associated with working in and around high traffic volume; Works in confined places and awkward positions.

Salary : $32,531 - $43,160
