RPU, a division of the City of Rochester, MN, is the largest municipal utility in the State of Minnesota. RPU consists of 200 employees and serves over 57,000 electric customers and over 41,000 water customers in a 60 square mile service area, with revenues nearing $161 million annually.

The Water Division of Rochester Public Utilities is seeking up to four individuals for temporary employment during the 2025 summer season.
Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled.
Nature of Work
This is a temporary/seasonal/limited appointment position with the primary duty of painting fire hydrants. Additional responsibilities may also include assisting with interior and exterior facilities projects. This position must be able to interact with the public in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner.
Work Schedule:
Positions are available from May through September. Work schedules may vary to include early morning and/or some evening hours, during the average 40 hours per week schedule.
Pay Scale:
$15.76 - $18.39 per hour, depending on qualifications/experience.
- Pursuant to MN Statute, seasonal assignments are limited to 67 working days per calendar year or 100 working days per calendar year if the employees are under the age of 22, are full-time students enrolled in a nonprofit or public educational institution prior to being hired by the employer, and have indicated, either in an application for employment or by being enrolled at an educational institution for the next academic year or term, an intention to continue as students during or after their temporary employment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The work below is representative of the scope of work performed within this job classification. Individual job duties will vary based on work assignment.
- Perform fire hydrant painting duties.
- Maintain and clean all equipment used on a daily basis.
- Assist with cleaning, repairing and/or maintaining departmental facilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified candidates must be at least 16 years of age
Licenses and/or Certifications
Valid driver's license
Desirable Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
Experience performing painting, cleaning, repairing or other miscellaneous tasks

Knowledge of: the operating characteristics, maintenance requirements and safety procedures and precautions associated with operating and maintaining assigned equipment.
