Position Overview:
The Animal Control Officer is an entry-level position responsible for providing daily care and support for animals in the shelter. This role focuses on ensuring the health, cleanliness, and overall well-being of the animals and maintaining the shelter's cleanliness and safety. The Animal Control Officer reports directly to the Animal Control Team Leader.

Animal Care and Maintenance: Feed, water, and exercise animals in accordance with their individual needs. Clean and sanitize animal kennels, cages, and other living areas daily to maintain a safe and hygienic environment. Monitor the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns such as illness or injury to the Animal Control Team Leader promptly. Assist in the administration of medications, vaccinations, and other basic veterinary care under supervision.
Facility Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the shelter, including common areas, supply rooms, and outdoor spaces. Restock and organize animal care supplies and inventory. Perform general maintenance tasks as needed to ensure a safe and functional facility.
Customer Service and Public Interaction: Assist with intake and adoption processes by preparing paperwork and answering basic questions from the public. Support community programs such as adoption events and volunteer activities as directed. Handle public inquiries with professionalism and compassion, ensuring a positive experience for visitors.
Additional Duties: Transport animals to veterinary appointments or other locations as needed. Follow all safety protocols and ensure humane treatment of animals at all times. Assist in emergency situations or special projects as assigned by the Animal Control Team Leader.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Experience working with animals in a professional or volunteer capacity is preferred but not required.
· Basic knowledge of animal care practices and willingness to learn shelter procedures.
· Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and standing for extended periods.
· Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
· Excellent interpersonal skills and a compassionate attitude toward animals and people.
· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
