What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Sheriff I and/or Deputy Sheriff II position at CITY OF SALEM TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS - CITY OF SALEM?
Performs intermediate protective service work in the Sheriff's Office involving a variety of general or support duty assignments including courtroom security, prisoner transportation, service of civil process, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Sergeant Deputy Sheriff.
Essential Functions
- Ensures the security and order of courtrooms; searches courtroom and prisoners for contraband prior to entering court and before returning to lock-up; responds to and carries out all orders of the judge; assists court clerks.
- Scans all persons entering courthouse; searches brief cases, bags, purses, etc.; assists handicapped and special needs persons.
- Transports prisoners, detainees, mental patients, juveniles, etc. to appointments, court, etc. as assigned; monitors and maintains inmates in the custody of the Sheriff's Office.
- Serves subpoenas, summons, notices, court orders, attachments, claims, arrest warrants, other legal documents and performs evictions.
- Prepares detailed reports on activities and assignments.
- Responds to citizen questions and phone calls.
- Conducts daily vehicle and building inspections.
- Participates in a variety of in-service and special training programs.
- Performs community outreach activities.
